Fun with Angles and Architecture

I enjoy exploring the world with my camera and I mostly take nature photos but every now and again I like to mix things up and find different things to photograph. Light always plays a big part in my photos but there are also so many different interesting buildings on campus and around where I live. For this blog post I decided to share some of the interesting angles and architecture that I found.

I love blue sky and clouds. There is a sky light in the overpass that I use to cross campus and thought it would be fun to get a picture of the clouds through it

Another view of the overpass -- there is a lot of glass which reflects the sky quite nicely. This is taken from below the underpass itself where ther cars pass though and I liked that you cam also see the trees on the other side

This again is about the reflection. I love finding buildings with lots of windows and taking them from a distance so you can see flowers and trees and clouds in them

Another reflection photo -- the light on the building was so nice and I loved the layers of fluffy clouds in the puddle

This little storage barn is close to my apartment. I walk by it all the time but for some reason this white fence in front caught my eye and I had to get a picure

I love this gold steeple and I was looking at the light and the clouds, but then I noticed the angles on the roof ...

The next group is different scenes on the PSU main campus-- some of my favorite buildings
Many of you know I work at the library -- we have some fun sky lights on the roof and I like to get different pictures of them.  I loved how bright the glass was and also how visible the black linesare in this one
A differnt angle of the front entrance and the stairs leading down into the underpass -- loved all the lines
Another 5th floor looking down picture. I really loved how the beam of light came into the courtyard

This is the newly redone Burrows Building -- I really loved the angles on this

and old main taken during a recent storm -- from the 4th floor windows of the library
another shot of old main -- actually taken from inside the IST building wher ethe over pass is -- you can see part of the overpass which I find especially fun
This is the Steidle building -- a long view -- love all the windows and the dome and the columns

And a closeup view -- loved the dome against the blue sky

This is one of the many sculptures on campus -- its about the fun of childhood and I couldn't resist taking a picture and sharing it when I saw this little bunny in front of it -- he might want to play too :D

The last section is all about shapes, lines and light
I love all the different stairways on campus and particularly how this one is in the trees
This is some of the iron work on one of the balconies. I loved the colors and the patterns
and a wider view of the same iron work

there are a lot of interesting light fixtures on campus -- I liked the simple lines and black and white on this one

And a wider view of the lights on the doorway -- I also like the birds in the corners

This is one of those simple hidden away arches over a door way. I loved the shapes and the patterns of the shadows on it

another view of the same archway. again I really loved the pattern from the lights

and a wide view of the same doorway -- I loved the way the light beamed through it
the top of the archway. I really really loved the weathered wood and the patterns of the shadow
and one more picture of the weathered wood -- these are on one side of the archway and I just loved the repeated shapes. Of course I had to be at the right angle to make them look this way . It was super fun to capture them.

Thanks as always for sharing my pictures with me. I hope you enjoyed my journey and experiments with some of the things I see on a regular basis. I will be posting again soon.. I recently purchased a macro lens and have been practicing with it. I look forward to sharing some of the fun shots I am taking with you.

Scenes from the bus window

I ride the  bus a lot going between State College and Wilkesbarre, PA and there is some beautiful Pennsylvania countryside. I've often wanted to take pictures of it. On Thursday July 14th it was beautiful outside and the bus was  empty so I decided to see what I could get looking out the window. The photos are in order of the way I shot them along the journey

This is a typical PA scene with the mountains and the clouds and hen the dirt piles and construction vehicle. I took it for the clouds but liked the rest too

Another typical countryside view -- I love the yellow hay fields and the mountains and of course right along the road ...

I really like the texture of thes big fluffy clouds ....

American Flags are everywhere -- I really liked how this one was above the building and against the blue sky

One of the many farms you see along the way -- I loved the red and white and the mountains in the back

A home with a spacious yard and trees and mountains -- again a typical and beautiful site along the road

I loved the white star and symbol on the barn and how it is peeking over the fields and through the trees -- the clouds add to the appeal of the scene for me

Another typical scene -- green fields along the highway and then of course the hills and clouds

One of the many streams along the way -- you know the levels are low when you can see that many stones

Another country honestead - I liked the long driveway and the fact that the paint was pealing -- and then the truck in front ...

Another roadside homestead -- two barns and the house on the side -- and surrounded by grass and trees and lovely clouds

And a whole farm stead complete with silos, hay a cow and a tractor and some fences

More of the yellow hay fields and I loved the hills and clouds in the background

I just liked everything about this scene

I liked all the different colored dirt piles in front of the barn and the green tractor

I loved this barn scene with the cow and horse and the fences and hay fields

I loved the house tucked away way beyond the fields ... could definitely live in a place like that

Road side Bowling Alleys are a very common site ...

Another typical and amusing roadside attaction

And one final roadside stream. Loved all the trees, the hills and the clouds ...

This was a really fun experiment and photo experience. I love what I was able to capture through the window and will probably do it again if I am riding an empty bus.... Thanks as always for sharing my photos with me ....

Colyer Lake and some flowers

I've been meaning to do this blog post for a couple of weeks now and just have not taken the time to do it . This is a bunch of random photos I have taken in the end of June and at my visit to Colyer Lake that I thought were beautiful or interesting or just something fun I wanted to share

Colyer Lake

This building is up on the hill above the lake. It was such a pretty day and it looked so rustic I had to take a photo

I love the clouds and the shadows they create on the hills -- throw in the lake and voila

There is lots of grass and reeds growing in the lake -- thought the red ones were particularly nice

and a wide view of the lake - I really love all the trees

I didn't find any frogs but there were lots of dragon flies and this one stopped long enough for me to get a few good pictures

dragon fly 2 -- this one had a blue body

dragon fly 3 - I love how this one was just resting on the little branch
Random things
I am sharing this sunset picture because I loved the different layers of color and the little glowing patch in the middle

Again I loved the layers of light and also the way it is reflected in the ceiling of the overpass that I took it from

I loved the way the colors were behind this duck. I take a lot of pictures of the ducks around the pond but the background is what made this one stand out to me.
fuzzy baby duck pile -- just so cute I had to share

I always look for interesting flowers -- I loved the faded colors and the shapes on this one and the way the petals are folded

Tiger lilies are my absolute favorite flower and I loved the way this one was against the yellow board

another type of lily -- this was all about the light and shadows and the contrast of the brown against the yellow

and who doesn't love roses -- there are a lot of different ones on campus right now -- I loved how delicate and pink this one is

the red stripe is what drew me to this one. I have never seen one like that before and it was just too perfect to pass up

I loved the layers of petals on this one simply beautiful and it smelled pretty nice too

love stone walls and trees -- this is a fun one I found on campus

and yes I have to pay tribute to the bees. It was so perfectly in the center of this flower ...

I liked the shape of this half open lily -- definitely fun and different

and another bee photo -- I thought it was really cool how it was just hanging off the bottom petal to get the pollen

I liked the colors and shapes of these flowers and they smell good too

This was all about the light and contrast -- the mauve was so nice against the leaves

Thanks as always for sharing my photos with me. Not sure when or what I will post next time but you can be sure I will be out and about with my camera
