I recently bought my first fixed focal length (prime) lens. Its a 50 mm 1.8 and I have had to get used to the manual focus on it. A lot of people use this type of lens for portrait, wedding, nature, product and all kinds of photography. Some of these are from around my place and some are outside. Since I love taking shots of clouds I had to try a few ....
My name is Amy and I am a photography junky. For most of my life it was more of a hobby and I just used a point and shoot camera. In the last year I not only bought my first DSLR camera but I have been studying and improving not only the way I look at the world, but how I capture it.This blog is a my way of sharing what I have seen and what I am learning. I hope it will be interesting and fun for all who come on the journey with me

And now a cat
I was showing my mom some of the pictures I had taken of my sisters dog Marley and she asked me to take some of her cat CC. It was a lot of fun doing that impromptu photo shoot and here are some of my favorite shots from it

Marley and more Marley
As promised here are a few more of the fun photos of my sisters dog Marley. Practicing with a fun subject:
Ice birds and a dog
I'm at my sisters house for a few days and decided to play with the camera today. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the day.
Some of the ice was melting but it made for really cool shots. I darkened a few so the ice would stand out even more.
I only have a few shots of my sisters dog Marley I took more but they are still processing. I'll post a few more soon

The bird shots were a lot of fun. My sis has a bird feeder in the back yard and between watching the feeder and the trees around it, I was able to capture these fun shots of the birds

Shout out to a fellow photographer
So I have just started following other photographers on face book and through Creative Live. I am loving what I am seeing and learning. I won the framed print you see above in a drawing and I love love love it.
The print is courtesy of Open Your Heart Photography - a site belonging to Jessica Newman. I love her photography and hope to someday be doing things like she is. Check out her site

Metering exercise
For an exercise in photography for this week we had to pick a white, black, and gray object and a white, black, and gray background and take a photo of each combination to test the light meter on the camera. I used a tripod and just the overhead light. I used different sweatshirts that I had as the backgrounds. Pretty interesting how it makes them look . For those of you who know camera settings I have listed the settings that the camera told me would give me the correct exposure. Interesting how things change and how they look different based on the color of the object on the background.
